Thursday 11 April and Friday 12 April 2019, Delft, the Netherlands

Thank you for participating!

Reflections on the PM Congress 2019: The Project Management Congress 2019 revolved around the theme of ‘Research Meets Practice’. A Congress is about ‘walking together’, and there was indeed a lot of walking (and not just talking) together over the two days of the PM Congress. There was a rich array of activities planned, including keynote presentations that got participants to reflect on the importance of people, knowledge, and innovating through projects, workshops on promising practices, conversations about story-telling, discussions about a future research agenda, and a packed programme of cutting-edge research presentations in the field of project management. Collaboration and engagement between researchers and practitioners form the key thrust in the deliberations during the PM Congress. There is more still that can be (and needs to be) done. The opening keynotes pushed participants to think about ways in which we can move beyond the boundaries of academic research and industry practice, and to find new and simple ways of translating complex theoretical models into practicable outcomes, not just on how to do projects but more crucially also on how to build effective project teams. To create and sustain a thriving community of practitioners in project management, there is a need to move away from our silos and reach out across organisations and between disciplines. As the congress theme highlights, adapt to this clarion call to build critical friendships for exploring intersections between theory and practice or risk a dying profession. The PM Congress 2019 is definitely a starting point for this ongoing adaptation and transformation in the field of project management.

Research meets Practice: Project Management 3.0.

Project management today is based on data, insights and experience in the field, but the nexus of successful projects is skilled people.  How to improve the connection between Industry, Academia, and Professional organizations?  How to prepare the workforce of the future?   It’s time to build bridges between these disciplines.  We will explore this issues and and address the gap at this event.

But we intend to go further,  we will also discuss the changing landscape of business and the impact on projects of the future.  How to cope with constant change and uncertainty? What new ways of working can improve projects and business? Our goal is to bring the discussion into business outcomes, beyond project processes, to get to the real value of projects to all of us.

Download the app and get involved!

PMCongress2019 at a glance – you will hear from:

– Researchers in academia bringing data and insights focusing on what we know, how we know it and what is trending for the future.  You will hear from an international contingent of researchers who have studied projects, processes, and people. But always with a view to success in the field.

– Business Leaders will bring their understanding of the value of projects in meeting strategic business objectives in their organizations.  They also understand the challenges and the changing landscape of projects (the content, timelines and measurements applied to results).

– Practitioners,  you will hear from Project Managers in the field and, PMI, the organization that certifies and supports them. Organization and projects are evolving to adapt to business disruption, learn how.

The end result? Actionable ideas to make you ready for the change ahead. A better connected workforce with an understanding of the skill gap, and the skills base needed for the next generation of projects and business leaders.

The PMCongress will  also use a variety of ways of sharing: journey presentations, research summaries, Ted-Talk style presentations, workshops,  innovation cafes will be used.

Our conference app will help to carry the conversations beyond the conference.  We invite you to join the challenge: help us consider the future.  Invest in 2 days to be inspired by, and inspire others.
